Adam Savage's profile

Adam's first comment here

Sasha Frere-Jones' site (which MeFi covered and SFJ talked about)

Fark

Mythbusters site at Discovery.com

Old West Myths requested at Ask MetaFilter

Adam mentions almost sawing off a finger

It was fun and fans of the show and this site will enjoy it. For the first time, I was nervous doing this and I didn't get to ask a few more questions I wanted to, but overall I really liked hearing the behind-the-scenes info about upcoming shows.

The next podcast will wait until jessamyn gets back (late next week) and we'll return to the normal "week in review + interview" format.

YAY! (excellent solution to Jessamyn being down under.)

Also "window candy"?!

I meant "window dressing" or "eye candy".

Sweet, I just got my very first iPod thingy and after obsessing over installing thousands of music tracks, now have a reason to check out this here "Podcast" whatsit.

No worries Matt! I'm pretty sure that every user of this site has mixed up their words/phrases at some point.

I knew what you meant and I'm sure other people do too and won't give it another thought.

I knew what you meant and I'm sure other people do too and won't give it another thought.

I hadn't thought about it until you said that. Now it's all I can think about. Is window candy a treat for the "glass and pane" crowd, or is it a kind of candy made from windows, a la "Shards O'Glass"? For that matter, what would eye dressing be? Prescription spectacles, or something more along the lines of a raspberry vinaigrette but for human eyeballs instead of lettuce? It's almost two in the morning and instead of sleeping I'm trying cope with some seriously disturbing mental images.

(Seriously though, great podcast. I love the feeling of being only 20,401 Mefites removed from celebrity.)

Where did the 'Metafilter's own' thing first start?
posted by Effigy2000 at 1:05 AM on March 6, 2007

I'm going to go with the Comedy Kottke Option. Just a guess.

Very cool. Also, great to find an excellent, excellent track from chococat that I would have missed. The podcast may end up a great little background support/promo for music.

Effigy2000: "Where did the 'Metafilter's own' thing first start?"

This post in the blue from April 2002 is the oldest use I can find of the adjective phrase in the way that you mean.

Excellent. Somebody should take this interview and turn it into a more traditional 'interview-profile' magazine piece.
posted by empath at 5:38 AM on March 6, 2007

Also, that is a great song. One of the few really good songs I heard on mufi when I finally got around to browsing it last week.

I love me some hot window candy, actually.
posted by JanetLand at 5:53 AM on March 6, 2007

Hey, cool!
Thanks for including me in that, Matt, that was great.
Hearing the song used in this context made me laugh for minute, how you frame the interview with it at both ends...it's sort of this sad longing from afar, bordering on obsession, and you're calling Adam Savage on the phone.
Great interview with Adam. As you say, very interesting to hear how things work from his perspective.

As Matt would say, "awesome!"

A word of warning: Adam Savage was the last guest ever on Penn Jillette's radio show. Savage guested on Thursday, CBS pulled the plug on Friday.

Just sayin'.

Adam Savage! Hot damn!

A mefi shoutout/easter egg on TV. Spiffy.
posted by Rhomboid at 7:28 AM on March 6, 2007

Matt, did our own asavage call you "Mike" at the end there? I wouldn't feel too bad about your own malapropism. ;-)

I think it was "like" -- "If you wanna do this again, like, in a year or so..."

Adam Savage is among my favorite tv personalities because he has to be just a ton of fun to hang around with. You never know what's going to blow up or break next.

I'm looking forward to listnening to this one!

So Adam is in the "Mee Fie" camp too, huh.

Going in, while a fan of both Mefi and Adam Savage, I was worried, but it was fun. And the comments about eye candy should be a warning to all you horny mefites.

Actually, I meant in relation to asavage.

Yeah, chocolat, I liked that a lot. And I'm pretty hard to please.

Matt is a better interviewer than Jon Stewart. I'm just saying.

This podcast and thread made me realize for the first time that I've been confusing asavage for Jamie Hyneman all this time. Sorry, Adam!

I actually first checked out Mythbusters because of all the hubbub on Metafilter. The show marathon over the holidays was the only thing everyone in the family could agree on watching. It was the show that saved Christmas!

I've really enjoyed all the podcasts so far...good stuff.

Nice interview, Matt. Adam seems to be every bit the sort of stand-up guy you'd imagine he is.

When he said, "Talk to you soon," was he serious, or was that just a throw-away phone greeting? TELL US TRUE DO YOU HAVE THE MAN'S EAR? Note to self, totally steal Matt's phone at a meetup and proceed to stalk all sorts of celebrities. Also, stalk and kill any "blogebrities".
posted by Eideteker at 4:10 PM on March 6, 2007

Wow. Chococat sounded great!

Matt, that interview sounded as though it should have been difficult (phone audio?), but you pulled it off really well. That was fantastic.

Side note: the site was a little slow earlier, could that have been because it was hit about a billion times?

Good show Matt! Thanks.

Wow really looking forward to hearing this one .. after I get through listening to the 8 hours+ of podcasts already on my Mp3 player that is =(

Adam Savage, why is your show not on Netflix??
posted by serazin at 9:00 PM on March 6, 2007

I'm about to go into MetaFilter-less exile and am relying on the podcast to carry me through. No pressure or anything, just make sure it keeps being this good.

Great interview. I'm glad you had the willpower not to dub over with "eye candy."

Fantastic interview. If the MeFi Podcast continues to improve by leaps and bounds as it has through the first three, I'll have something worthy to replace zefrank when he goes off the air this month.

Excellent, thanks Adam & Matt! I look forward to another one a year from now.

Bucket science.

It's always gratifying when someone you see on TV who seems to be a decent funny guy actually comes across as a decent funny guy.

I listened to this with Mythbusters playing in the background. I'm cool.

I dig that song, man!

I like how neither of the MB hosts had formal training in "science" prior to doing the show.
